Tooth loss can occur for many reasons including decay, gum disease, injury and wear. Missing teeth can result in a multitude of problems including the inability to eat many foods and low self-esteem. At Cosmetic and Reconstructive Dentistry of New York, we understand the negative effects of missing teeth and are experts in restoring your mouth to the healthy and functional smile you deserve!
Crowns cover or "cap" a tooth to restore the normal function and appearance of the tooth. Crowns may be made of different materials such as all metal, porcelain fused to metal or all ceramic (porcelain). Crowns are indicated for teeth with very large fillings, teeth that have had a root canal, fractured teeth and misshapen and/or discolored teeth.
To replace a missing tooth with a bridge, at least one tooth on either side of the space created by the missing tooth must be prepared for a crown. Then a false tooth is joined to the crowns, and the entire structure is cemented to the prepared teeth
Dental implants are generally made of titanium and are anchored into the jawbone. After osseointegration has occurred, the implant functions as a tooth root. The implant is then restored with an abutment and crown. Implants can be used to replace one, multiple or all of your teeth and can also be used to securely fasten a denture.
TMJ and Bite Therapy
During your initial and routine exams, Dr. Pandich will examine your TMJ (tempero mandibular joint). Grinding, clenching, trauma, missing teeth and bite discrepancies can lead to TMJ problems. Pain or discomfort, clicking, popping noises can indicate a TMJ problem. There are many ways to help these problems and Dr. Pandich is highly trained in evaluating and treating TMJ problems.
Full Mouth Reconstruction
Sometimes, the entire mouth can break down. Full mouth reconstruction utilizes many methods of dentistry to create the correct and healthy relationship between gums, bone, muscles and the teeth. The mouth is complex and without the proper bite, chewing can be impaired, the teeth can wear and the jaw and neck can be sore. Dental bonding, veneers, crowns, implants are all potential procedures used to complete a full mouth reconstruction or rehabilitation. The result is a perfect smile!
Periodontal disease, decay or injury can result in a loss of all of your natural teeth. Complete dentures can be made to restore your both your smile and function. Dentures can gain additional stability and won’t slide around when used in conjunction with dental implants.
Partial dentures replace multiple missing teeth and are made from metal and acrylic to restore your smile and bite. Implants can also be used to increase partial denture stability and eliminate the need for unsightly clasps on the remaining natural teeth.
